Each player in turn spells out a $1, starting with the first player. The players can only $1, i.e. spell out a stronger bid, or $1 Higher bids may incur a higher risk. The risks are summed up in table Table 2.2.

To know whether to outbid or to pass is a difficult question, perhaps the most difficult for the beginners. Read section The cards to know what cards will help you in this task, however here is some general advice:
There is only one round of bids. We call the winner the $1, and she will have to take a sufficient amount of points to win this game. Unless otherwise decided by the call (see section Call), the other players will team up against her and will be cited as the $1
